Booking your dog in to The Sighthound Savoy

How do I make a booking?

The first step is to complete the application (link) form detailing your basic requirements. We will then contact you via email with some further information.

Do I need to bring my dog to meet you before I can book in?

Yes, we will arrange a meet and greet in the first instance to make sure that you are happy with our facilities and that your dog gets on with us and our dogs.

What happens after a meet and greet?

If the meet and greet goes well and all parties are happy we will then arrange a trial for your dog to stay for 24 hours to make sure they can settle.

If the trial night goes well how do I book in?

You can confirm your dates and times of check in and check out and we will add them to our calendar. You will then receive a confirmation email regarding your booking.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

Yes, you will be required to pay a deposit to secure your place at the time of booking (£15 per day).

When will I need to pay the balance?

Your balance will be due for payment one month prior to your booking, you will be sent invoices for both deposit and balance with dates when they need to be paid by.

How much notice do I need to give if I want to book my dog in for a holiday?

If this is your first booking you will need to have completed the meet and greet and trial night for your dog before we can agree to the booking. Therefore, you should give us as much notice as possible as dates fill up quickly especially during the Summer months.

If your dog has stayed before we can take bookings so long as your dates are available, there is no cut off point or minimum notice period required.

Boarding

Where will my dog sleep?

There are options available depending on where your dog normally sleeps at home. We have several warm and comfortable rooms available, both upstairs and downstairs.

Do you take any breed of dog for boarding?

No, as sighthound specialists we now only take new customers who own sighthounds.

What do I need to bring?

We will need to see your dogs up to date vaccination card as this is a requirement of our licence. You also need to bring a sufficient amount of food for the duration of your dog’s stay as well as their lead, collar, harness (or other walking equipment) and a coat if they need one. Pyjamas or house coat for bedtime (but we do have spares) and a blanket or something that smells of home to help them to settle.

It is not necessary to bring beds, toys or bowls as we have sufficient amounts of all of these available for use. However, if your dog has a favourite toy they can bring it.

How often will my dog be walked?

As a condition of our licence dogs will be walked for a minimum of 20 minutes twice daily but this is generally exceeded. We also offer enrichment activities within our home and garden including supervised play with our dogs and other boarders. If your dog cannot be exercised as frequently due to age or a medical condition, please discuss this with us when making your enquiry.

Do you take dogs who have not been neutered/spayed for boarding?

We are happy to take un-neutered male dogs as long as they do not scent mark and are well socialised with other male dogs. We will also accept un-spayed female dogs as long as they are not in season at the time of boarding.

Will my dog be allowed off lead?

Yes your dog will be allowed off lead if you require this but this will be at our discretion if we feel that it is safe to do so. If you want your dog to be kept on the lead throughout their walks then we will adhere to your request.

Will my dog be left alone during their stay?

No, there will be someone home at all times during your dog’s stay. If we do have to leave the house then we have someone who will stay with the dogs until our return.

What happens if there is an emergency and you cannot look after my dog?

In case of a real emergency you will need to supply us with details of someone who can collect and care for your dog. We will ask for the name and contact details of this person when you apply so please make sure that you have checked that they will be able to do so. This is also a condition of our boarding licence.

Does my dog need to have up to date vaccinations in order to board with you?

Yes, we need to see evidence of either vaccination or titre test for their DHP and proof of vaccination for leptospirosis (this is a requirement of our licence). We do not require dogs to have the kennel cough vaccine but, if you choose to do so, please make sure that it is done at least one month prior to boarding.

What if my dog becomes ill or has an accident whilst boarding?

If your dog needs vet treatment we will try, in the first instance, to get them to your usual vet. However, as many of our customers are not local we have an approved vet practice who will treat your dog (Oakmount, Burnley). For this reason we will require you to sign a vet consent form when booking your dog in with us.

Do I need pet insurance?

No, but we do recommend that you have it in place in case of illness, accident or emergency treatment being required. We are fully insured to care for your dog but in some cases we are unable to claim costs back, therefore the cost would be payable by the owner.

My dog has sleep startle, can they still board with you?

Yes, but you need to make us aware of this when you book in with us so that we can minimise the chance of this happening.

How safe is your home and garden?

We operate an airlock system at the front of our home as we have an exterior door to our porch then another internal door.

Dogs are always put on lead prior to leaving the house and are given a collar to wear with our contact details on it.

We have CCTV both at the front and back of the house and also in the room that leads into the back garden.

The back garden which is used for the dogs to play, toilet and laze around in (weather permitting) has a 6 foot fence and hedge around it with a gate that it locked and bolted from the inside so there is no access from outside.

Is my dog allowed on the furniture?

Simply, yes.

Will my dog be fed with other dogs?

No, we separate all dogs at feeding time to prevent conflict. If you have 2 dogs staying with us who usually eat together then we will accommodate this should you wish.

My dog is raw fed, do you have facilities to store the food?

Yes, our own dogs eat raw and we have 2 dedicated freezers and a fridge to store fresh and frozen food.

My dog takes medication, can you administer this during their stay?

Yes we can give vet prescribed medication but please bring it in the original container with full instructions on how much to give, when to give it and any potential side effects or contra indications.
